Try something different for your science lesson this year with a Montessori inspired study on sharks. My daughter loves Marine Biology and the ocean, so this is going to be great for her. My son will love it even more. My husband has just found a love of spearfishing and has dragged my son right along with him. Sounds scary for an eight year old doesn’t it? Well, it is.
My husband and his friend from New Zealand have been spearfishing at least once a week. They take all the boys with them, ages 8 – 12. They hardly catch fish, because the fish are so fast. However, I think it is just the thrill of the hunt and being in the mysterious ocean that is so intriguing for them.
While spearfishing last Sunday, two of the boys yelled out to the dads that there was a shark in the water. The dads rushed out to see a beautiful reef shark swimming through a channel. As I tried to control my heart from jumping out my chest when I heard the story, the boys thought it was the coolest thing ever. I can’t wait to do this shark study with my kids this year. I hope your family enjoys it as much as my kids will.
