Living books are a great way to really immerse your children into Science. Science textbooks can be so chock full of facts and rote memorization, and to be honest, they can be quite boring! Living books are rich with subject matter written by an expert in the subject and written directly to the child. They are interesting, fun, and a delight to read.
Living books are a great way to supplement a science curriculum to make it come more alive than a regular textbook. I have found that living books accompany a textbook spine for a great well rounded curriculum. If you are using living books as a complete science curriculum it is important to make sure that you keep track of everything that is being read aloud and that your children are reading. I found a great book log from Everyday Graces that will help you keep track of what you are reading. There is even a book report if your child finds a book they love that they can do a detailed report on.
