We have lived in our home for 11 years now. As a stay at home mom, some days you can get tired of staring at the same walls, and same decorations every.single.day. Sometimes you just need a little update and sprucing up to bring some life and cheer back into your home. Depending on your style and tastes, pallet and fence board crafts can make some of the cutest, cheap home decorations! All you need is some basic tools, paint, and a little creativity to add some very inexpensive and sometimes free crafts for your home!
Here are some of my favorite crafts:
Pallet Wood Sign from House by Hoff – this uses one pallet board and is perfect for the front of your home!
DIY Pallet Wood Rack with Storage from Knick of Time – this could be used for books too!
Beyond the Picket Fence has some amazing tutorials on distress painting and pallet crafts and furniture! Here are some amazing ones:
Paint Tutorial – I LOVE this look!
Reclaimed Wood Heart Art – This is next on my project list! Isn’t it beautiful?
Picket Fence Star – love this cute rustic star made from fence pickets
These are some of the crafts that we have made using pallets:
My husband found some nice pallets that were heat treated (no chemicals). He pulled them apart and sawed the back of the nails off so that the nail heads stayed in to leave some character. Then my son spent an afternoon sanding them all. Then I stained them and my husband put them back together to make them into signs like this:
Here are the finished products! I used cheap, acrylic craft paint and a small paintbrush and just painted them free hand. I already had the heart stencil.
The next big project that we tackled was building a King size bed! The bed frame was built from old fence posts and fence boards. The slats were made with regular pine though.
Here is the headboard made out of heat treated pallet wood and sealed with clear polyurethane. My husband built it like you would frame a wall and then nailed the boards on the “wall”.
Here are some free and cheap Kindle books with more step by step directions and ideas to help you create:
I challenge you to try to create something for your home from reclaimed wood, fences or pallets. I promise you will love the final product, which will make for a unique, custom item for your home!
