Reinforcing Skills Taught with Math-U-See

We have been using Math U See for a couple of years now. It is working well for my girls, but sometimes I have found that we need to mix things up a bit. If you are in this situation with your kids, you may be looking for some things you can use to help them reinforce the math facts they are learning with Math-U-See and get some more practice with those fun, colorful blocks.

Math-U-See: A Homeschool Math Curriculum

Math-U-See is a complete math curriculum that teaches kids math from kindergarten through the 12th grade. Unlike most other math programs, Math-U-See teaches a specific set of skills.

For instance, the Alpha book covers addition and subtraction, specifically single-digit addition and subtraction. The Beta book covers multiple-digit addition and subtraction, while Gamma teaches multiplication.

Math-U-See Levels

You’ll find 13 levels of math that range from the early math skills of writing digits and counting all the way through calculus. The best part of Math-U-See is that kids can progress at their own rate.

Lessons are taught through a combination of manipulatives, instruction DVD, textbooks, and digital resources. The digital resources include math teaching ideas, online resources, and also digital manipulatives for you and your children to use.

By the time children have finished Math-U-See, they have learned the core K-12 math skills. Math U See is a great way for homeschool families to teach their children math.

Math-U-See Mastery Math Program

Before the child completes a lesson in Math-U-See, parents are encouraged to read their instruction manual and learn about what’s being taught. Then the kids watch the video lesson to see a classroom teacher teaching the math lesson to a class of students. Kids get complete math explanations on the various concepts.

Math-U-See Student Workbook

When this is completed, the children complete a week’s worth of assignments in the student workbook. There’s also an integer block kit to help kids master the concepts. You’ll also find digital manipulatives on the Math-U-See website. It’s an excellent teaching tool.

At the end of the week, the children hand the parent the student book and take a math test to see if they’ve mastered the material.

One Topic A Week

The advantage is that each week focuses on one topic so kids are able to master each math skill before moving on. If your child doesn’t master the skill the first week, you’re able to keep working on the concept until your child does learn it. Plus, if your child masters the skill in just one or two days, you can move on.

Don’t worry about your kids forgetting the math they learned. There are systematic review pages built into the program to make sure the kids review their math skills.

You’re able to move at your child’s pace!

I wanted to share with you some great things I found that would go well with Math U See!
