How we use notebooking in our homeschool
This year we will be doing eighth grade! I still can’t believe we are only one
year away from high school. Yikes – I am feeling old, LOL. We started out lapbooking,
which made me feel like an accomplished crafty person. See, I am NOT crafty and
these completed projects made me look like a pro!
I purchased a lot of my lapbooking
templates from CurrClick for a $1.00 or less and sometimes FREE! Here is one we
did in 5th grade:
For 5th and 6th grade we did (and LOVED) Mystery
of History Volumes 1 & 2 and used their notebooking
pages. They also have a super
supplemental collection for V 1 & 2 with notebooking pages, coloring pages,
challenge cards, folderbooks (lapbooks) and more! This worked wonderfully for
us! We are not a very hands-on activities type of homeschooling family (not
that I don’t want to be, but working from home is difficult, ya know?) We
would read our lessons together and then she would do a notebooking page after
each lesson narrating what she learned. It was AMAZING how much information she
retained! After discovering that notebooking worked so well for us, we started
using it for science too! For the same two years we did Christian Kids Explore
By this point, she was outgrowing lapbooking, so it was an easy transition into notebooking for us!
Last year for seventh grade, we used Queen
Homescool Supplies “A Living History of Our World” for History, which had
an accompanying notebooking journal. We also used notebooking pages from www.notebookingpages.com
for a lot of unit studies and supplements. They have a bunch of FREE things too!
