I reviewed the Time Travelers history unit studies and they are…. shall I say, AWESOME! Please bear in mind I am the opposite of crafty. Lapbooks are attractive to me in thought, especially when I see some of the lapbooks that others do. If I attempted to do one on my own, I would get as far as folding the folder….lol! Don’t get me wrong, there is more to the unit studies than lapbooking, that is just what I enjoyed the most.
Each lesson has a text to start out with. It is factual, fun, and engaging, and most elementary readers can read it aloud without assistance. There are even some photos to accompany the printed reading pages that are very interesting. After reading the project’s text, there are several activities to choose from, along with writing/copy work for those students needing to practice their handwriting.
Since I already mentioned that I am not a crafty person, you will appreciate the fact that I loved the projects. The directions are clear and the supply list is generally items you have in your home, and primarily your printer. There are lapbooking projects as well as notebooking items, and often a choice of how you want to store it (lapbook or notebook) is provided with details on how to make it work for both. At the end of the lessons you compile your stored lapbooking items into a beautiful lapbook. It is completed easily, and since you worked on it little by little, it is not in the least bit daunting.
I highly recommend using the Time Travelers series as a compliment to your history curriculum. History can be fun in your home with these easy to do, but also elaborate, hands on activities! History was the most dreaded subject for me in public school. Now I get to enjoy it the right way with my children! Read about more of HSITW products below!
