A few years ago we stumbled upon a copy of Geography from A to Z: A Picture Glossary by Jack Knowlton and Harriet Barton. We have used this handy, colorful book several times when my daughter came across a geography term that she is not familiar with.

Geography from A to Z: A Picture Glossary is a popular book that is used in My Father’s World Exploring Countries and Cultures curriculum, Classical Conversations, and GeoMatters’ Galloping the GlobeIt will truly enhance any geography curriculum. If you have this book or you plan to use it, the Geography Terms Notebook (available below) will be an invaluable tool to go with it.

Because my daughter loves to draw and color and this book has been so helpful to her when learning new geography terms, I created the Geography Terms Notebook to go with it. This visual notebooking adventure uses the geography terms in the same order found in the book Geography from A to Z: A Picture Glossary. Each term has its own individual page that includes a place for the student to write the definition and a box to draw the illustration by copying it from the book.

Description of Geography from A to Z: A Picture Glossary:
This picture glossary is the perfect book to help young kids begin to learn about Earth’s geography! From A (as in archipelago) to Z (as in zone), it features over sixty clear and concise definitions with beautiful full-color illustrations and maps.

Have you ever wondered what a badland is? What about a gulch? Do you know what an isthmus is? Or a seamount? What about the difference between a plateau and a plain, or a knob and a knoll? Well look no further. This broad introduction to the fascinating world around us explores our planet’s physical features from the highest mountain peak to the deepest ocean trench.

I love the detailed visual graphics of each vocabulary term included in the book. Using the Geography Terms Notebook your student will have so much fun learning geography terms. This will become a treasured keepsake for years to come.

We plan to continue using the Geography Terms Notebook in our homeschool this year. My 4th grade daughter has already started on it {for fun}, you can see some of her drawings below.

Illustrations by Anna Fernandez, 4th grade

You can use the Geography Terms Notebook in your homeschool too! We received permission from HarperCollins Publishers to use the terms found in the book to create the Geography Terms Notebook so other homeschooler can benefit from this handy resource as well.

Note: This is a digital download. No physical products will be sent.

Students will love copying the illustrations from the book and coloring them. This process helps young minds really get a good grasp on what each term really means (and looks like).

It is highly recommended to use the Geography Terms Notebook along with Geography from A to Z: A Picture Glossarybut not required. Your child could look up the definitions and use the Internet to find a picture of each term to illustrate it.
