I love finding fun STEM activities for my older students to get them excited about the STEM field and experiment with different types of science activities.

We are loving the free lesson plans and unit studies from Engineering is Elementary. This engineering curriculum is geared for grades 6-8 and will help your students tackle real world engineering problems by engineering, designing and creating a solution. This unit study covers the engineering field of biomechanical engineering. There are 8 different 1 hour activities that will teach your students about the story of Winter the dolphin and her prosthetic tail. Their final challenge will be to construct a prosthetic model for a fish as well as designing an exhibit for visitors to see. There is a video to watch, an educator guide and a materials list as well as 8 free downloadable lessons.

You can grab this free engineering prosthetic tails lesson plan HERE.
