Typing skills are normally taught in a computer lab in schools. When you homeschool, you pretty much are supplying your very own computer lab every day. One of my favorite electives when I was in school was being able to use the big clunky computer in the computer lab and practice my typing skills with Mavis Beacon. My grandmother had an awesome typewriter that I loved to practice on when I was over at her house, as we didn’t have a computer at home. She was a secretary when she was younger and I was so amazed with her speedy typing skills, that typing was one of my favorite subjects.

Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing  is a classic computer software program that teaches correct posture, hand positioning, typing technique and typing skills. This is how I learned how to type over 20 years ago. It is still used in classrooms today to teach students how to type. This is a great resource to help your students at home to learn how to type as well. There are many different versions available,  now there are even direct software downloads.

If you are on a budget, I am happy to say that I have found lots of different FREE resources to help your own children learn how to type.
