So, here is a little-known fact about me. Are you ready – it’s pretty colorful.

My mom has been a prescription drug addict my entire life. There, I said it. Whew, that was a little difficult to admit.

Watching my mom struggle with her addiction to this day has really been very difficult. She will never admit to being an addict though. I guess she thinks having several doctors who all write her the same scripts is a normal thing. And you know….everyone has a pain doctor, right?

I love my mom and have forgiven her, however our family doesn’t have much of a relationship with her. It’s hard to bring my kids around someone who is always dopey on pills. When I was a kid I tried and tried to get someone to help and even went so far as to call the narcotics department at the police station. I was 10 and had filled up a whole trash bag of pills and empty bottles. Apparently nobody took my pleas seriously.

Due to my mom’s addiction, it has scared me every time I had to take “medicine.” When I was growing up we were very poor and we ate like crap (just keepin’ it real.) The processed foods that I lived on are what ultimately caused all of the autoimmune issues I am dealing with today. I had headaches practically DAILY and migraines often. That is not normal for a kid. I did take medication to help me function and thankfully nothing was a narcotic or habit-forming. But it wrecked my gut.

If you have headaches or migraines you know how debilitating they can be.

A few years ago I learned that I had food intolerances that CAUSED MY HEADACHES!

I switched to a gluten free diet and it didn’t really help my headaches, however it DID help me start healing my gut. Then a friend told me how MSG was a migraine trigger for her. I hadn’t looked much into that and had no idea what it was. I researched and read and made sure I eliminated all forms of it (it’s everywhere!)

Guess what happened? My headaches improved!

Ultimately, changing your diet and lifestyle really CAN make you feel better overall AND heal your body from many conditions. I took it a little futher and dived head-first into the Autoimmune Protocol, a modified Paleo diet. You can read about my success here – and guess what? I have 99.9% eliminated all headaches & migraines!

My own journey to wellness, apart from prescription drugs (I am sure you can imagine why I would want to stay away from that!) has inspired me to share how you too can experience a new you.

This book has been VERY helpful in learning about gut healing and inflammatory foods. It's normally on sale too.

I hope this post has been encouraging for you! I pray that you find healing in your body if you have need.
