My husband is an artist and my girls love art too. Since I do not have an artistic bone in my body,  I gave them Ohuhu Colored Pencils and Colored Gel Pens to use and review. My teen daughter was ecstatic to review art products as she spends much of her time drawing and doodling. My husband paints using acrylics, but also enjoys using markers and colored pencils. This review is an honest review of these art supplies.

The first thing that you notice about the Ohuhu color pen and pencil art products is the thoughtful, creative, and smart packaging usually only found with much higher priced upscale products. The pencils are actually made with recycled redwood making them environmentally friendly as well as non-toxic. I rather like the round, sturdy cardboard packaging of the Colored Pencils, however, it can make sorting your colors a little difficult. If you prefer, you can find the Colored Pencils in a tin case as well, however they do cost more.

710CC47kzyL._SL1500_The Ohuhu Colored Pencils offer a wide range of flesh and earth tones as well as many other colors making it easy to accommodate many requirements (the set we tested had 48 different colors.)  The pencils lend themselves easily to different artistic techniques such as shading, smoothing, and sharp line contrasts with positive results, however I found problems blending with the colors as they showed up lighter than Prismacolor Pencils in comparison.

Prismacolor Pencils are more pigmented, but that is a matter of preference. Overall, Ohuhu Colored Pencils put out a nice color and are comfortable to use, having a very silky smooth and creamy texture that I am pleased with. I like the wide range of colors.

The Ohuhu Colored Pencils are a great product for their price. They are cheaper than Prismacolor Pencils; $14.99 for 48 Ohuhu Colored Pencils compared to 48 Prismacolor Pencils on Amazon for $28.78. These graphite and clay-based colored pencils are available in 48 and 72 color sets . I am very happy with this product and would recommend it to my friends.

In addition to the Ohuhu Colored Pencils, we tested their 60 Color Gel Pen set as well. This set provides for almost an unlimited amount of different artistic applications. Art projects will benefit from the availability of custom options that include Glitter, Metallic, Neon, Pastel and Swirl colors. Ohuhu even thinks ahead and provides 2 black pens for drawing and outlining.

These gel pens lay down color evenly making it easy to achieve a full look without the need for excessive pressure, however they are not the best for coloring in large spaces on drawings as the ink dries up and you have to shake the pen or scribble to get it running again. All colors show up nicely, very brightly colored – even the lightest colors show up on white paper.

I’m most happy with the impeccably smooth writing and vivid ink. There is no bleeding through, except maybe the darker colors that will show on the back of thin paper. I am ambidextrous and sometimes prefer writing with my left hand and discovered they are left-handed friendly. When using my left hand it does not smear as much, compared to other gel ink pens I have used in the past. Finding gel ink pens in this variety of colors is wonderful.

Priced at $14.99 for 60 pens, compared to Papermate Inkjoy gel pens at $19.99 for a 14 count, you are getting a lot for your money. I am very happy with this product and could find little to no complaints, I LOVE these pens.

The combination of Ohuhu Colored Pencils and Colored Gel Pens would make a significant addition to any art supply collection – at a fraction of the price.

We had an extra set that we gave to Sarah so her artsy daughter could use them. She wrote up a short “review” as well:

Written by Abigail Shelton – 11 years old

I love art. I like to draw and journal. I was excited to receive the new gel pens and colored pencils by Ohuhu. The gel pens are nice and I love all the different choices of colors. I did have some trouble coloring in a picture that I drew. My pen ran out before I could finish. I would not recommend using these for a very large area. They work great for sketching and writing in a journal. I really like the sparkly black pen. The pens are made with a clear plastic so you are able to see how much ink you have left. This pack came with 60 pens: glitter, neon, metallic, pastel, rainbow and 2 blacks.

The colored pencils are great for everything! I have used them for coloring, drawing in my nature journal and writing in my common place notebook. I would compare these to any expensive brand of colored pencils. They are smooth and very bright and almost looked like permanent marker! They also sharpen well without breaking. I also like these pencils because they are environmentally friendly and do not contain rainforest wood. Both the pencils and the pens are also non toxic.
