Have you ever considered making your own soap for your family?

Stack of soap bars with sponge and bottles on light background

I love making homemade bath and body products. I have been making my own lotion bars, lip balms, liquid soaps and homemade cleaners for years now. The one thing that I recently had a chance to make was my own bar soap. This was on my to do list, but I will be honest and say that I was scared! This is definitely a chemistry project for sure! I was afraid I was going to blow up my house and that I wouldn’t be able to make soap with my kids in the kitchen with me. I decided to take a soap making class at a local, organic, natural store that offers fun homesteading, DIY type of classes.

I was thrilled with the outcome and it wasn’t as scary as I expected it to be. I can’t wait to tackle more soap making projects this Fall. I think homemade soaps are just lovely, and make beautiful, heartfelt gifts. Some soaps can take up to 6 weeks to cure, so now would be the perfect time to start making them for the holidays.
