This is probably the thing I am most excited for this fall! Our Pastor will be teaching a homeschool co-op for 6th – 12th graders using Cultural Issues: Creation/Evolution and the Bible from New Leaf Press. Our high school students will get one Apologetics credit.

Often times, Christian students will not know how to answer tough questions pertaining to the theory of evolution. They know they do not believe in it {hopefully} but they don’t really understand what it is supposed to mean. When the world throws them questions they are not armed with answers.

That is what this curriculum teaches. I am thrilled with the chapters and have started reading The New Answers Book 1 myself. There are even some things I would like to better understand, according to Scripture.

Christians live in a culture with more questions than ever – questions that affect one’s acceptance of the Bible as authoritative and trustworthy. Now, discover easy-to-understand answers that reach core truths of the Christian faith and apply the biblical worldview to a wide variety of subjects

What is included in this set (you can purchase all three items for under $45, which includes everything you need!)

The New Answers Book 1

Here are some of the chapters I find interesting:

Why Shouldn’t Christians Accept Millions of Years?
Cain’s Wife—Who Was She?
Could God Really Have Created Everything in Six Days?
What Really Happened to the Dinosaurs?
Where Does the Ice Age Fit?
Are ETs & UFOs Real?
Is Natural Selection the Same Thing as Evolution?

The New Answers Book 2

Here are some of the chapters I find interesting:

What’s the Best “Proof” of Creation?
How Old Is the Earth?
Did Humans Really Evolve from Apelike Creatures?
Does the Bible Say Anything about Astronomy?
Where Did the Idea of “Millions of Years” Come From?
Did People like Adam and Noah Really Live Over 900 Years of Age?
Isn’t the Bible Full of Contradictions?

Since we want our children to earn a high school credit, we are also using the Parent Lesson Planner. This Cultural Issues: Creation/Evolution and the Bible Parent Lesson Planner contains materials for use with the The New Answers Book 1 and The New Answers Book 2.

From the NLP Website:

Features: Each suggested weekly schedule has two easy-to-manage lessons that combine reading, worksheets, and vocabulary-building opportunities. Worksheets, quizzes, and tests are perforated and three-hole punched — materials are easy to tear out, hand out, grade, and store. Adjust the schedule and materials needed to best work within your educational program. Space is given for assignments dates. There is flexibility in scheduling. Adapt the days to your school schedule.

Workflow: Students will read the pages in their book and then complete each section of the PLP. They should be encouraged to complete as many of the activities and projects as possible as well. Tests are given at regular intervals with space to record each grade. If used with younger students, they may be given the option of only choosing activities or projects of interest to them and taking open book tests.

Lesson Scheduling: Space is given for assignment dates. There is flexibility in scheduling. For example, the parent may opt for a M-W schedule rather than a M, W, F schedule. Each week listed has five days but due to vacations the school work week may not be M-F. Please adapt the days to your school schedule. As the student completes each assignment, he/she should put an “X” in the box.

We will be sure to write a follow-up post after we use this set. I will likely have my daughter review it. :-)
