This is the second post in our Messy, Sensory Activities for Outdoor Play Series!

Ice
My kids love fun sensory play, but I don’t like the mess. That’s why it’s best to take these things outside! Summer is the perfect time to do this, beat the boredom and get outside and have some fun! In the summer it is always so hot in Florida, so it’s fun to come up with activities that will keep you cool.

This week our sensory activities involve ICE!
Rainbow Ice Tower Excavation from Fun at Home With Kids – this is a great activity if you are learning the colors of a rainbow, and it will keep your kids busy with the salt and water tools to dig the items out of the block!

Summer Experiment with Ice and Oil from Growing a Jeweled Rose – this is another colorful fun activity that teaches how water and oil do not mix!

Melting Elsa’s Frozen Hands Activity from Happy Hooligans – this is such a fun idea, and perfect for those Frozen fans!

Ice Tower Beach Treasure Hunt from Little Bins for Little Hands – this is a really cool project if you have a beach or lake near you. When it melts you have your very own tidal pool!

Monster or Octo Ice from Growing a Jeweled Rose – This is the craziest and cutest thing I have seen yet! Any kid will love this! What a fun idea!
Silly Summer Fun with OCTO-ICE- a creative way to stay cool while playing in the sun!
Ice Chalk from Reading Confetti. Now this is a messy one, but there are different variations. I like the idea of using popsicle stick molds.

Ice Volcanoes from Reading Confetti  – this is a great science activity for all ages. The older kids can help mold and create the volcano molds.
Ice volcanoes are easy to make and a fun science and play activity for kids of any age.

There really are so many fun things you can do with ice. Even the older kids like to participate! My older girls love to get giant food storage containers and put their plastic horses and toys  in them and freeze them. Then they put them on the deck and roll it around with a broom like a giant hockey puck until their toys melt out of it. It’s amazing how long they will play like this for!

Have fun getting messy and staying cool this summer!
