Bodies of Water Geography Study by sproutingtadpoles

I have the next set of maps ready for the Exploring the Country Geography Series. This set is a study of the Bodies of Water for each continent and includes an 8 1/2 x 11 map of each continent, a list of waterways to outline and label and some pictures for pasting on your map.

As we do our study of the Bodies of Water, I have my boys work on each continent map first by drawing in the lakes, rivers, swamps, seas, bays etc. from the list and label them. Then they research and add a few facts about 2 or 3 selected waterways and add some pictures or drawings of their own directly to the map. I encourage them to be creative when working on their maps because it helps them remember the many different names of all the waterways they are learning.

Once they have finished all of the individual continents, we add all of the major waterways, oceans and seas to our large wall map. If you want your child to work on memorizing some of these waterways, then print out the blank maps, draw in the waterways with a black marker and laminate them. Have your child work on labeling the waterways each day until they can take a blank map and draw them on their own and label them.
